Notes for ABRAHAM STRICKLER:
From Steve Kauffman, 9/7/98

ABRAHAM STRICKLER  of   ~Mesenuttin on Gerundo" (Massanutten on Shenandoah)

His plantation was known as Egypt.

Abraham Strickler, 1, the pioneer, b. in Switzerland came to America about 1700, first locating in pennsylvania~ near the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County, and later, about 1729, in Page County, Virginia, where he died in 1746. His deed  from Jacob Stover for a thousand acres is dated 1735, but we have evidence that he was on this land five or six years  earlier.  His plantation has always been known as Egypt He is probably buried in Egypt where his eldest son, Jacob is buried, opposite the mouth of Mill Creek.
He had at least four sons and a daughter; Jacob Joseph, Benjamin John, and Mary and possibly a fifth son, Abraham. Isaac  was also a son or grandson. He may have had other children.
  .
1, Abraharn Strickler m. tradition says, peter Ruffner's only sister
  1.      Jacob located in Egypt. (9)
  2.      Joseph located in Egypt (M4S4)
  3.      Benjamin located in Massanutten. (M 796)
  4.      John located in Pitt Sprin~ Bend. (M940)
  6.      Mary m. Joseph Roads, son of John killed by the Indians. (M542)
  7.      Isaac, a son or grandson, located in Massanutten.  (NiIS)
8 Abraham may have remained in pennsylvania.

  Explanation

The first four books are named for the four sons of Abraham the pioneer. The book of Abraham is named for the head of the family which has been the custodian of the ancient Bible, Abraham was probably a son or grandson of the pioneer. The book  of Isaac is named for Isaac who is a son or ~randson of the pioneer. The book of Daniel is Daniel of Rckbridge County.  His relationship with the pioneer has not been established.
Then there are a few pages devoted to the descendants of Mary, a who married Joseph Rhodes, a son of John, the daughter of the Pioneer, pioneer. See m842

Each person has a number but instead of the number 1000 I have used "m" to represent that number, hence 1001 is represented by ml. The letter "n~~ is used in the same manner to represent 2000.

Jack

Received your e-mail which prompted me to recheck my data. I have most of
the data that you have (at least the first 4 generations). However I am
finding one major discrepancy in data that I have found and the data that
others have found. That difference is the date of marriage of Mary Ruffner
and Abraham Strickler and the age of Abraham.

I have found the following:
Generation 1 are HansStrickler (1667-1737 and Anna Heistand.
Generation 2 are Heinrich (1700-1761), our Abraham (1702-1746), Conrad
(1705-?), Hans Jacob (1708-?), Anna Catrina (1712-?), Ulrich (1715-1750),
Barbara (1720-?).

There is data to substantuate that Heinrich, Abraham, Conrad, and Ulrich
all came to Pennsylvania. All brothers stayed in Pennsylvania except
Abraham who moved to Virginia. I found data and pictures of some of the
Pennsylvania Strickler history on a Pennsylvania Genealogy Net.

I found these dates on a the Strickler Homepage (in Switzerland) that is
ran by Keobi Strickler. I will have to look up his e-mail address.

I have done research in the Fairfield County, Ohio library that shows there
were Strickler, Kauffman, Heistand, and Ruffner families from Virginia as
early as 1803. I am finding that some of these family names go back to
Switzerland.

I will keep you posted on any verifications for the data that I have. I am
always glad to share information.

My line is from Abraham to John (1740-?), to Joseph (1781-1846), to John
(1808-1887, to Lewis (1830-1894) to Margaret (1868-1957). Margaret was my g
grandmother. She knew Lewis and John.

Jacob Strickler lived in lower Egypt on part of the 1000 acre tract his father Abraham purchased of Jacob Stover. In 1755   Fairfax gave him a deed for his part of 1000 acres, his father having derived his title from the Colony of Virginia and it having  been discovered that this land was on the Fairfax Dominions. Jacob Strickler's home, combination fort and dwelling, still  stands in Egypt. It has been described. Draw a line from the mouth of Mill Creek to Strickler's Knob and this line will pass  over Jacob's house and not miss his brother Joseph's.  He was buried opposite the mouth of Mill Creek on the house very far.  brow of the first bench that rises from the lower bottom and on the northern edge of a depression that leads down from the  upper to the lower ground. Three lone cedar trees stand here now. It is just north of a line fence between J. C. Burner and J.  C. Bowers. Here, it is presumed, they buried Abraham, here they buried Jacob and his two wives.

Hello distant cousin Jack,  It is always good to hear from a long lost
relative. There is not too much to say about Nancy Kauffman. She was the
child of Martin Kauffman Sr, who died in 1749 and Barbara
Stauffer(Stover). I have her death date as (about 1772). Married  Jacob
Strickler, son of Abraham, and Jacob is listed as dying in 1784. They
lived at Ft Egypt, almost directly across  the Shenandoah River from
where I live. I descend from David Kauffman, Nancys brother, and live on
land that has always been in our family since it was first settled. I
looked at your tree on the FTM site. I use FTM but am  far from being
ready to submit any info for fear of inaccuracies. The information I am
sending is from the Kauffman-Coffman Lineages  by Charles F Kauffman,
published in 1940. Another good book on the Stricklers in this area is
Forerunners by Harry Strickler. As can be expected both have their share
of mistakes. Steve
