Benjamin CHILD - bap. Jan. 15, 1631/2, Cottesbach, Leicestershire; d.
Oct 14, 1678, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA. Son of
Benjamin CHILD and Sarah SHENTON of Cottesbach. Genealogy of the Child
Families, 1630-1881, by Elias Child
includes the descendants of Benjamin. He was a nephew of Ephraim Child
of Watertown, Middlesex Co., MA who
bequeathed 40 acres of land to Benjamin's first son, Ephraim. Came
to America about 1630. Married about 1653, possibly at
Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA.
Mary BOWEN - b. about 1635, Gower, Glamorgan, Wales; d. Oct. 31, 1707,
Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA. Daughter of
Griffith BOWEN and Margaret FLEMING.

1.Ephraim - b. 1654, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA; bap. there
Feb. 27, 1658/9; d. Sep. 25, 1675, Northfield, MA. Slain
by Indians. Inherited 40 acres of land from
great uncle Emprain CHILD of Watertown, Middlesex Co., MA. Did not
marry.
2.Benjamin - b. 1656, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA; bap. there
Feb. 27, 1658/9; d. Jan. 24, 1724, Roxbury, Suffolk Co.,
MA. Benjamin's grave marker in St. Peter Burial
Ground (now in Arnold Arboretum, harvard University) reads "Here
lies buried the body of Benjamin Child who
died the 24th day of jan 1723/4 in the 66th year of his age." Admitted
to the
Roxbury Church of Christ on Aug. 21, 1681.
Married on Mar. 7, 1682/3 at Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA to Grace
MORRIS (b. Feb. 7, 1660/1, Roxbury, Suffolk
Co., MA; bap. there 10 days later; d. there Dec. 10, 1723; bur. there 4
days later), daughter of Edward MORRIS and
Grace BETT. Children: Ephraim married Priscilla HARRIS; Benjamin
married Patience THAYER (their daughter Sarah
married Hon. Jedediah MORSE, and became grandmother of Samuel
F. B. MORSE); Edward married Margaret WELD;
Grace married Timothy WALKER; Mary married Peter
WALKER; Ebenezer married Elizabeth BACON;
Mehitable (or Martha); William married Deborah GODDARD;
Peniel married Dorothy DWIGHT; Richard; Thomas
married first cousin Ann MORRIS (daughter of Ebenezer and
granddaughter of Edward and Grace); and Margaret
married first Waitstill AVERY, and second Edward HERRICK.
3.Joshua - b. about 1657/8; bap. Feb. 26, 1658/9, Roxbury,
Suffolk Co., MA; d. Jan. 18, 1729/30, Roxbury, Suffolk
Co., MA. Married May 9, 1685, Roxbury, Suffolk
Co., MA Elizabeth MORRIS (bap. Mar. 15, 1666, Roxbury,
Suffolk Co., MA; d. Mar. 6, 1752, Roxbury,
Suffolk Co., MA), daughter of Edward MORRIS and Grace BETT.
Daughter: Elizabeth married John MAY IV.
4.Mary - b. Aug. 8, 1660, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA; bap.
there Oct. 28, 1660; d. Oct. 12, 1718. Married Jan. 24,
1683 Jacob CHAMBERLAIN, son of William. Daughter:
Mary married Samuel DAVIS.
5.A child - b. and died 1662, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA.
6.Elizabeth - b. Dec. 2, 1663, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA;
bap. there Feb. 21, 1664. Did not marry.
7.Margaret - b. Dec. 21, 1665, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA;
bap. there Jan. 28, 1666/7; d. Jul. 15, 1742. Did not marry.
8.John - b. Jan. 8, 1667, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA. Died
young.
9.Mehitable - b. Jun. 29, 1669, Roxbury, Suffolk Co.,
MA; bap. there Aug. 29, 1669; d. Sep. 7, 1752. Married Samuel
PERRIN (b. Mar. 10, 1671, Rehoboth, Bristol
Co., MA; d. Mar. 11, 1743/4), son of John and Mary (HUNT)
PERRIN. Children: Mary; Mehitable died young;
Samuel; Abraham; John; Nathaniel; Peter; and Mehitable married first
cousin Jonathan PEAKE, Jr. (son of Jonathan
and Hannah (LEAVENS) PEAKE), and second Edward BUGBEE (son
of Edward and Abigail (HALL) BUGBEE, and widower
of Catharine PEAKE, sister of Jonathan, Jr.).
10.John - b. Aug. 1, 1671, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA; d. 1747,
probably at Woodstock, Windham Co., CT.
11.Joseph - b. Jun. 1, 1673, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA; bap.
there Aug. 31, 1673; d. there Feb. 10, 1673/4. Died Young.
12.Joseph - b. Dec. 10, 1674, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA.
